Weekly Reading.
Reading is an important part of education and life. It improves literacy, expands our creativity, helps us learn new things, and opens doors to different peoples, ideas, and cultures. In the 4th grade, we encourage our students to read!
WHAT: Students will receive points for their weekly reading. They should read 10 minutes in English and 10 minutes in French. (This is the minimum amount. Of course you can read more!)
WHERE: Students keep track of their reading using the monthly calendars found throughout their planners. They should record the title of the book and time spent reading each time they read (English on the top half of the day, French on the bottom half).
WHEN: Students have from Friday to Friday to get 5 days of reading. They choose which 5 days out of the 7 to read.
HOW: Parents, please initial somewhere on that week that your students has read. On Friday, Mrs. Powell or Madame Overvliet will check off the reading. Incomplete reading or no parent signature earns only partial credit.
An example of what the planner should look like is shown below.
